Physical Education (PE) at Beck Row Primary Academy plays a vital part of everyday school life. All pupils have two hours of PE timetabled each week to cover the six main areas of the National Curriculum. These main areas are Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Swimming, Athletics, and outdoor and adventurous activities. Fitness and Health is strongly promoted during curriculum teaching.

Fun, enjoyment, confidence, competence and self-esteem are at the forefront of our PE delivery, with our main aim being that children continue to lead a healthy and active lifestyle throughout their lives. Children in Reception and Key Stage 1 develop the fundamental skills such as aiming and throwing, balance, co-ordination, control, and movement. In Key Stage 2 children are able to use these fundamental skills to develop their knowledge and understanding of invasion games such as Football, Basketball, Netball, Tag Rugby and Hockey. These skills are also transferrable to striking and fielding games such as Cricket and Rounders, together with net games such as Tennis and Volleyball.

Alongside the PE Curriculum the children have the opportunity to participate in numerous extra-curricular sports clubs including a range of sport and fitness activities. A selection of these are offered at different times throughout the school year as part of our termly after-school club sign-ups.

Children are also given the opportunity to participate in the Forest Heath School Sport Partnership primary pyramid festivals and competitions. Children compete for the school and are proud to do so.

Sports Premium Funding

Sports Premium Funding is funding given to schools from the government in order to enhance the PE and Sport provision in schools. It is up to the schools to decide how this is used. At Beck Row Primary Academy, we are using our sports funding to increase the number of after school clubs on offer for our pupils; participate in local tournaments and increase the number of competitive opportunities for our pupils; improve the equipment and resources for all PE sessions in school; provide quality training for staff to improve the teaching of PE and provide leadership development opportunities for our play leaders at play-times and lunch times.
