The Pupil Premium is extra  funding that is given to schools based on the number of pupils receiving free school meals, pupils who are looked after or pupils from military families based in the UK. Historically, these pupils are deemed to have made slower progress and the pupils identified as being “vulnerable”. This is a nationally recognised issue. The purpose of the Pupil Premium is to target support to ‘narrow the gap’. In 2012 this funding was extended to include all pupils who have been eligible within the last 6 years (Ever6).
