At Beck Row Primary Academy, we follow a broad and balanced curriculum, which aims to support and interest the individuals at our school. This year we have moved to using the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). We have planned our topics from the IPC to ensure that every class has a full coverage of subjects and objectives for their year group.
This is our topic map for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Additional information about the curriculum can be found in this booklet.
English is taught every day from Year 1 to Year 6 at Beck Row Primary Academy. We teach a text-led curriculum, using key texts chosen to ensure a wide coverage of genres and authors for each year group. We also try to incorporate books which link to our topics alongside in both English lessons and our topic sessions.
We teach phonics lessons every day in Key Stage 1, working in groups to ensure that children are accessing the phase appropriate for them. Our phonics is based on letters and sounds and uses the LCP phonics scheme.
Our Maths lessons are taught every day in Year 1 to 6 and incorporate a range of skills linked to mental maths and written mathematical calculations, dependant on the appropriateness at different ages. We use the White Rose Maths scheme of work to underpin the use of using concrete resources, pictorial resources and then abstract concepts.
At Beck Row we usually teach science as a stand-alone subject. We use the programmes of study from the National Curriculum to support our planning.
