Fox class have quickly settled in and are enjoying learning, in their new classroom. They have already started to write all about their summer holiday adventures, as well as making up new class rules together. They also had fun showing off how much they had remembered about Maths. Our topic for this half term is ‘Significant female monarchs’ and Fox class have been set their first homework task to investigate what they already know about this interesting subject.
In English we are looking forward to learning more about non-fiction and information texts. In Year 2 we will also dedicate more time to SPaG, meaning working on spelling patterns, punctuation and grammar. Guide reading has already also begun in Fox class, where the children are finding it interesting working in groups together. They are being introduced to new learning tools to help them with their comprehension skills. They are helpful dogs called:
Rex Retriever – who retrieves information.
Prediction Pete – who predicts what might happen next.
Sequencing Suzi – who puts information in the correct order.
Remember to share your child’s home reader read regularly and ask them to use these supportive dogs to show off their comprehension skills. Take a look at the Oxford Owl Website. You can register and have access to lots of e books that are free and tie in with our learning at school: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/
In Maths we have already started to use the Primary Advantage programme to start our autumn learning about place value, measuring length, capacity and mass, fractions and using multiplication, division addition and subtraction in problem solving. Take a look at the Topmarks website and enjoy playing Maths games to help your child’s learning: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/interactive.aspx?cat=1
